1. Just add them to next month's Employer Contribution Return, including their name, address, date of birth, Cbus membership number, the date they started with you and the details of the contribution you are making for them.
2. If they have provided you with their Tax File Number (TFN) you’re required to add it on the Contribution Return form, along with the details above. Write TFN followed by the 9-digit number. You are legally obligated to pass on their TFN if you have been provided with it.
Not already a Cbus member?
1. Just add them to next months Employer Contribution Return. Make sure you include their name, address, date of birth, the date they started with you and the details of the contribution you are making for them.
2. Attach their completed Membership Application form. You can download the Member Handbook here. It includes the Membership Application form at the back. It is important that this is attached.
When a new employee starts, if they’re eligible to choose their own super fund, you need to provide them with a Standard Choice Form with 28 days. If you’re new employee doesn’t want to choose a fund, you must make super contributions to your nominated fund. In this case, you don’t need to take any further action.
Generally, if there isn’t a super fund nominated in your employees agreement they will be eligible to choose their own fund. To work out if your employees are eligible for Choice of Fund visit www.ato.gov.au/super.
