Find your Lost Super
$7b in Lost Super!
It is estimated that there are 2.7 million Australians with unclaimed superannuation - worth a total of $7 billion, or an average of $1,600 per account waiting to be claimed.
If you have worked and changed jobs or your address or even had a name change in the last 10 years, you could have unclaimed superannuation.
How to Search for Lost Super
When a superannuation fund loses touch with you, it has to eventually forward your money to an Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF). Cbus uses AUSfund (Australia's Unclaimed Super Fund) as its ERF. You can search the AUSfund database to see if they are holding any superannuation for you. You can search via their website www.unclaimedsuper.com.au or call them on 1300 361 798 and they will search for you. It's a free service.
The AUSfund website also has links to the Australian Taxation Office's Lost Members Register.
The Australian Consumers Association (the non-profit, independent tester of products and services) also has a website with links to various agencies and public trustees that hold unclaimed monies. Click here to go to their report on Unclaimed Monies.
What to Do Next
REMEMBER: if you find any ‘lost' super you can transfer it into your current Cbus account. That way you pay less in fees, earn more interest and know exactly where your retirement savings are invested.
FACT: most people lose touch with their super because they have changed address and forgotten to tell their fund - if you have moved since joining Cbus - ring and tell us: 1300 361 784.
