Death and TPD Cover

Cbus provides access to 24-hour-a-day insurance cover.

Cbus members who are less than 65 years old who meet the eligibility conditions may receive cover for Death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD). Members aged between 65 and 69 years receive Death cover only.

The Cover you need at a Price you can Afford

Depending on your needs, you can choose between 1 and 10, and possibly more, units of insurance. Each unit of insurance costs $1.95 per week. You can apply to increase your existing cover by downloading an Application form below.

Buying this type of insurance through Cbus is one of the cheapest ways to protect yourself, because the units are paid for with your pre-tax income.

You should refer to the Cbus Personal Super Product Disclosure Statement for further details.

Insurance Tables

There are three Cbus insurance tables available to Cbus Personal Super members. There is an insurance table for each of the following member types:

  • workers engaged in manual occupations; and
  • workers engaged in administrative and professional occupations; and
  • members receiving spouse contributions. To be eligible for Cbus' Spouse cover you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1.        You must be married or in a de facto relationship with the contributing spouse.

2.        Both you and your contributing spouse must be living together.

3.        You are not in paid employment or you earn below $13,800 per annum.

4.        You are not employed by the contributing spouse.

5.        You are less than 65 years old.

If you are not eligible for the Spouse insurance, the answers you provide to questions on your Membership Application will determine whether you are covered under table A or B. See below to view or download the Cbus Insurance Tables.

TPD Cover

If you become totally and permanently disabled whilst an insured member of Cbus, and meet certain eligibility conditions, you can apply for an insured Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) benefit. If you think you are eligible for a claim, you should read the information sheet at the bottom of this page, and contact the Fund on 1300 361 784.

Terminal Illness Benefit

Cbus has introduced a new benefit - "Terminal Illness Benefit" (TIB). This Benefit is only available under the Cbus Standard Insurance Scales (i.e. the Manual, Non-Manual and Spouse Scales).

To be eligible to receive this insured benefit a member must, on the 27th November 2006 or later be diagnosed by their treating specialist as having a terminal illness; and a life expectancy of less than 12 months. The member must also be insured for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) cover under the Fund as at the date of diagnosis.

Members must also meet the usual conditions for release of a benefit under the fund (as outlined in the Fund's Product Disclosure Statement) before an amount equal to their TPD benefit as at the date of diagnosis (i.e. the TIB benefit) can be paid to them.

Members who are paid a TIB benefit will cease to be covered for TPD as from the date that their claim is admitted. Death cover may continue provided the member remains with the Fund and premiums continue to be paid. The Death cover will however, be reduced by the amount of any TIB benefit already paid.
