Withdrawals
You can now keep your super with Cbus even after you’ve retired
If you are fully retired you can make lump sum withdrawals at any time.
Partial withdrawal
The Cbus Partial Withdrawal Option allows you to leave your super with Cbus and withdraw money as you need it. Since superannuation is such a tax-effective investment, especially for those over age 60, this can be a very attractive option.
We’ve also simplified the process involved in withdrawing super, so it’s now faster and easier than ever.
What are the benefits?
- Your money stays invested in your super account and continues to grow while benefiting from the superannuation tax advantages
- You can access a lump sum whenever you need it
- You will continue to benefit from our low fees and history of strong returns
- Your super benefit can be treated favourably under the social security means tests, so you may be able to access increased Social Security benefits.

Full withdrawal
If you would like to withdraw your account balance from Cbus, we recommend that you speak to one of our advisers first. Our advisers can also provide you with an overview of other investment types outside of super and how they compare. It's important to understand the pros and cons of other investment types before making any decisions. Consider factors such as risk, diversification, flexibility and costs involved.
To make a withdrawal, call us on 1300 361 784. We will send you an Income Stream withdrawal form together with your estimated account balance.
Transition to retirement
Generally you are unable to make lump sum withdrawals from your account unless the money is used to:
-
pay out an unrestricted non-preserved benefit;
-
pay a superannuation contribution surcharge debt;
-
pay a superannuation Excess Contribution Tax Assessment;
-
give effect to a payment split under Family Law;
-
purchase another non-commutable income stream; or
-
roll over directly to a superannuation fund.
