Who gets my super when I die?
It's important to think about this so your wishes are carried out
The balance of your super account, plus any insurance benefit can add up to a significant amount of money, but who would get this if you die? What if you have family members dependent on you? Or if you have children from a previous relationship?
Look after the people you care about
Cbus wants to help you look after the people you care about. We offer two options for telling us who you want to receive your benefit, via a non-binding nomination or a binding nomination.
Non-binding nomination
Sometimes called a preferred beneficiary nomination, a non-binding nomination means your benefit will be paid to either (or both) your dependant/s or your legal personal representative. However, Cbus will have ultimate responsibility in making this decision, which will be made in accordance to the Cbus Trust Deed and relevant legislation.
You can make a non-binding nomination using this form or online via your secure account at Member SuperSite.
Binding nomination
A binding nomination can provide you with greater certainty as to who receives any benefits in the event of your death. However, for your nomination to remain valid you must renew your binding nomination every 3 years. As your circumstances change you can update your binding nomination and it will remain valid for 3 years. Your nomination and their expiry dates will be printed on your Cbus Member Statement and Record of Contributions.
You can make a binding nomination using this form.
If you don't have any beneficiary nominated
You don’t have to nominate any beneficiaries. In this case we will follow the Cbus Trust Deed and relevant legislation which means your benefit will be distributed to any person who satisfies the eligibility criteria.
