Market overview
Investment Environment Overview (current as at 25 November 2022)
Developed markets around the world rebounded in October, reversing some of the losses that have dominated the major asset classes for much of the year to date.
A positive month was well received in the UK, as the country faces an imminent recession. UK assets reacted positively to Rishi Sunak being appointed leader of the Conservative Party and, by extension, becoming the country’s new prime minister. His fiscally conservative reputation and prior experience as chancellor helped to stabilise gilt yields and in turn interest rate expectations. As a result a number of domestically-focused areas of the market recouped some of their prior losses.
It’s unclear whether the momentum we saw in October will continue, as Central banks around the world continue to increase interest rates with the aim of reining in rising inflation.

We allocate different proportions to each asset class with the aim of meeting each option’s investment risk and return objective. By investing across a range of asset types, the risk of loss is reduced through diversification. For more information see asset classes. We periodically review our investment strategy and believe that the Growth (MySuper) option is well positioned for growth over the medium to long term, while maintaining some defensive exposure. Cbus’ investment options, with the exception of the Cash Savings option, are broadly diversified across asset classes.
