Frequently asked questions

Why did Cbus Super merge with EISS Super?

The merger with EISS Super gives members the opportunity to benefit from shared knowledge, expertise, technology and processes, while also delivering tailored, industry-specific products and services that meet the needs of our members.

Increased scale and future growth will benefit members by providing access to more investment opportunities, a greater ability to manage fees effectively and access to products and services, including products for those approaching or currently in retirement.

When did the merger take place?

EISS Super merged with Cbus Super on Thursday 11 May 2023 and members were automatically transferred to Cbus Super on Friday 12 May 2023.

Do I have a new member number?

This depends on your account.

If you were an EISS Super or EISS Pension member before the merger, you were given a new Cbus Super member number. This was provided in your welcome letter.

Generally, if you were a member of the EISS Retirement Scheme or EISS Defined Benefit Scheme (including lifetime, spouse or child pension account), your member number did not change. However, for a small number of these accounts member numbers had to be changed with a letter added. This change was explained in welcome letters to affected members.

Do I need to reconfirm my beneficiary arrangements?

No, your beneficiary arrangements were automatically transferred to your new Cbus Super account, which means you don’t need to do anything, but you might like to review your nomination.

If you had nominated beneficiaries with EISS Super, these were detailed in your welcome letter from Cbus Super.

Note: this does not apply to members receiving a lifetime, spouse or child pension.

Do I need to update my Power of Attorney?

No, if you had a power of attorney in place on Thursday 11 May 2023, this will have automatically transferred to your new Cbus Super account. You don’t need to do anything, but you might like to review the details.

I have a third party authority on my account, did this transfer to Cbus Super?

No, third party authorities didn’t transfer to Cbus Super. To set up a new third party authority with Cbus Super fill out the Third party authority form and send it to us.

How can I view my new Cbus Super online account?

You can register for access to your online account here.

I have super with another fund. Can I bring it across to Cbus Super?

Yes, you can rollover super from another fund.

Log into your online account and search for your super with the ATO using your tax file number. You'll need to verify your identity, so have your ID ready.

If you don’t know the details of your other funds, call our helpline on 1300 361 784 and, with your permission, we can search for lost or other super for you. We’ll need to verify it’s you, so have your ID available.

Find out more on our Consolidate your super webpage.

Please note: you cannot rollover other super balances into a Super Income Stream account or into a lifetime, spouse or child pension.

What happens if I already had a Cbus Super account before the merger?

We will write to you after the merger to discuss your options if you already had a Cbus Super account before your EISS Super account was transferred over.

Alternatively, if you know you had an account with Cbus Super before the merger, call our contact centre after 22 May to discuss your options and you could save on paying multiple fees on administration and insurance.

How can I make extra contributions to my account?

You can make personal contributions to your Cbus Super account by BPAY®, electronic funds transfer (EFT) and direct debit.

If you use BPAY® to make personal contributions to your super, you can find your new Cbus Super BPAY® details in your welcome letter or call us for them.

EFT: Cbus Super’s bank account details are available from your online account or by calling our helpline.

Direct debit: Fill out the Member direct debit request form and send it back to us.

® Registered to BPAY Pty Ltd ABN 69 079 137 518.

Did my BPAY® details change?

Yes, the details changed due to the merger. To set up one-off or regular contributions to your account using BPAY® (conditions apply) use your new Cbus Super BPAY details in your welcome letter.

® Registered to BPAY Pty Ltd ABN 69 079 137 518.

Can I claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions after the merger?

Yes. If you’d like to claim or vary a tax deduction for personal super contributions you made to your account, fill in our Notice of intent to claim a tax deduction for personal contributions to super form and send it to us.

Can I split contributions made to my EISS Super account with my spouse after the merger?

No. As your EISS Super account has transferred to a different super fund (Cbus Super), only contributions made to your Cbus Super account can legally be transferred or split to your spouse’s account after the merger.

If you have a question about this, call our team on 1300 361 784 Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 8:00pm (AEST/AEDT).

Do I need to do anything if I have a Division 293 notice of assessment?

If you’ve received a Division 293 notice of assessment from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) that relates to contributions paid to EISS Super, you’ll need to pay the tax liability directly to the ATO.
