Cbus strengthens Investment capability appointing three new leaders
Cbus, the industry super fund for the building, construction and allied industries, today confirmed three key appointments in their Investment team in the roles of Head of Property, Head of Private Equity and Head of Equity Portfolio Construction.

As part of this approach, we focus on taking advantage of the Fund’s scale by continuing to build in-house expertise to manage significantly larger funds under management and to continue to deliver strong long term returns. This provides greater flexibility for the Fund to capture attractive investment opportunities whilst reducing management costs. These key new appointments support this strategy and our continued success for Cbus’ members.”
John Longo will commence in the role of Head of Property in mid-February. John was previously a Senior Investment Director at Australian Super for four years. Before that John held the position of Property Director at the Future Fund for five years. He also has past experience in directly managing listed property securities portfolios at Challenger and HSBC.
Serge Allaire will commence in the role of Head of Private Equity in mid-February. Serge was a Portfolio Manager with the MLC Private Equity team for eight years. At MLC he was responsible for the Australian, Asian and European private equity portfolios. Prior to that Serge held various positions with NAB/MLC and McKinsey & Co. Serge completed his professional education in France and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
James Crawford has been appointed as Head of Equity Portfolio Construction and has extensive experience including senior roles at First Sentier, AllianceBernstein, and Wellington. He was also previously Head of Investment Strategy at IAG Asset Management and a Principal/Senior Consultant at Towers Perrin. Prior to that he worked at Commonwealth Funds Management in various roles including Head of Research and Manager of Trading. James holds a Master of Economics from ANU.
