How to claim the Age Pension

A step-by-step guide to claiming the Age Pension

If you're eligible for the Age Pension and you're six months away from turning 67, it's time to get ready to submit your claim.
warning

Age Pension payments are only backdated to the date you lodge your claim.

You could lose up to $45,037 as a couple if you apply for the Age Pension a year late.

When to get started

If you're eligible for the Age Pension, it pays to get started gathering your supporting documents around four months before you turn 67.

You can submit your claim for the Age Pension when you are 13 weeks away from turning 67. This allows time for your claim to be processed. If your claim is approved, you can start to receive Age Pension payments as soon as you turn 67.

If you submit your claim after turning 67, you may miss out on payments you're entitled to, as Age Pension payments aren't backdated.
