Cbus Super took home awards for Specialist Fund of the Year and Best Fund: Member Services, from a fund-record eight nominations at the 2023 Chant West Super Fund Awards held in Sydney last night.

It is the fourth straight year Cbus has been recognised as Specialist Fund of the Year.

Cbus Super Chair Wayne Swan said the awards were recognition of the fund’s proud history of delivering retirement outcomes for its members, and benefits and services for members with unique or specialised needs including tailored insurance for members in hazardous jobs.

“It’s fantastic to be named Specialist Fund of the Year for the fourth time as we head into our 40th anniversary year,” Mr Swan said.

“Delivering the best possible retirement outcomes for members has been our focus from day one.

“Whether that’s through the work of our world-class investment teams, our front counter staff and workplace coordinators visiting worksites or our back-office operations teams who keep things running smoothly, the focus is always on members.

“Our members place great trust in us because they know we know their industry, we understand the challenges that come with a lifetime of physical work and we are always looking out for their best interests.”

Chant West noted that Cbus has worked harder than most other funds on its insurance offering, ensuring younger members in hazardous work can still by default be covered, after securing Parliamentary support for a Dangerous Occupation Exemption. In addition, Chant West specifically recognised Cbus’ offering of online underwriting, including needs analysis, to help members get the right amount of insurance cover.

Mr Swan said, “It’s tremendous recognition that Chant West singled out our advocacy for our members’ insurance – which has been so vital for our members in hazardous occupations. Statistically the most vulnerable workers of all in the workplace are young workers new to a job and Cbus has seen an increase in apprentices and young people on construction sites without any level of insurance cover for hazardous work.”

Chant West highlighted leading member services by the Fund including personalised retirement income estimates, member engagement campaigns, membership materials to cater for different languages and a diverse membership, and proactive actions to recover unpaid super.

Cbus was a finalist in eight categories, a record for the Fund:

  • Super Fund of The Year 2023,
  • Pension Fund of The Year 2023,
  • Best Fund: Investments 2023,
  • Best Fund: Member Services 2023,
  • Specialist Fund of The Year 2023,
  • Best Fund: Advice Services 2023,
  • Best Fund: Responsible Investment 2023,
