Apprentices making money moves
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we’re sharing money tips from four switched-on Cbus apprentices. They’re not just earning money, they’re building their future.
National Apprenticeship Week 2026 is a chance to recognise the hard work, skill and ambition of apprentices and trainees across Australia – including many Cbus members.
Running from 9-15 February, the week celebrates the value of apprenticeships in shaping Australia’s future workforce.
Apprenticeships offer more than technical training. They open doors to lasting careers, financial independence, and confidence. For many, it’s the first step in learning to manage money and plan for the future.
We asked four Cbus apprentices for their top money tips. Here’s what they had to say:
Know where you're at. Get our app.
Cbus apprentice Jenna logs into the Cbus app to check on her balance and make sure her super's going in.
"I log into my account at least once a month. Having a quick check, checking my balance, seeing what my investments are doing. I’m all over it."
The Cbus app lets you manage your super on the go. Download in the App Store or Google Play.
Budget like a boss (even if it’s basic)
Em, a third-year electrical apprentice, says having a budget is the best way to manage her money, because tapping the card is just too easy.
“The best financial advice I’ve probably been given is (get a) basic budget … If I want to take my kids on holiday or something like that, I've got to have the funds for it. It’s thinking about the future that motivates me.”

Tough jobs need tougher insurance – make sure you’re covered
Will, a second-year apprentice, knows how important it is to have insurance tailored to his industry.
“The construction industry is very high risk. You can get injured just like that, but (with insurance) you know that you’re going to be covered if you get a life-changing injury.”
Log into your account to check or change your insurance cover.
Build it up now, thank yourself later
Bianca became a Cbus member when she started her apprenticeship. The first thing she did was bring across her super from her old fund, so she’s only paying one set of fees. She’s hoping to build her savings for what lies ahead.
“I’m planning to increase the amount I’m paying into my super. I’ve had a few guys at work suggest the idea to me and I think it’s wise to plan for the future.”
To learn more, read about the different ways you can add your super. If you’re on a low income, read about the Government co-contribution, which could help you get a super boost from the government.
