Young workers are highly engaged in their financial futures, with needs and concerns shifting significantly with each decade of age, according to new research released by superannuation giant CBUS Super.
More than 80 per cent of CBUS members aged 25-34 are weighing up different wealth building strategies according to the new research, which coincides with a new campaign launched by CBUS.
This new generation of tech-savvy tradies and construction workers show a keen desire to learn more about how they can get ahead and build their long-term financial future.
CBUS Super CEO Kristian Fok said the research showed the Fund needed to do more to appeal to a broader cross-section of workers, beyond just those headed for retirement.
“Our research tells us there’s a big group of young workers out there we need to reach who are ambitious and committed to building a successful future, just like CBUS,” he said.
“We want them to know CBUS Super is here to play a role in growing their wealth and supporting them to achieve their financial goals, whatever they might be.”
The research showed how members’ needs develop throughout their lives, with key findings showing:
- Under 25s are highly motivated by practical guidance on saving, investing early, and making their money work harder.
- Members aged 25–34 shift towards long-term wealth-building decisions, with superannuation emerging as the most compelling area.
- For those aged 35–49, retirement preparation becomes front of mind, alongside managing household pressures.
- Members aged 50–66 place the greatest emphasis on maximising super, effective tax strategies, and understanding pension rules.
- For individuals aged 67 and over, the strongest interest lies in navigating pension entitlements, sustaining retirement income, and managing typical later-life financial decisions.
To help Australians build toward their financial goals, whatever they might be, the Fund is launching an exciting new campaign, “Build your something”, demonstrating how making smart choices is key.
When it comes to super, strong investment returns over the long-term make CBUS one such smart choice.
The new campaign includes a refreshed brand identity with hi-vis colours at its core, reflecting the Fund’s history as well as its future.
With superannuation among the single largest assets of most Australians by retirement, it forms an important part of wealth creation from day one.
Mr Fok said the new campaign showed how CBUS is the smart choice to partner with members at every stage of their working lives.
“We are proud of the story that champions our members and the vital contribution they make to building the Australian economy,” he said.
“We’re saying to Australians, particularly those at the start of their journey, that CBUS is a smart choice to ‘build your something’ and meet your financial goals.”
