Cbus delivers strong returns over the financial year
The Growth (Cbus MySuper) option has delivered a great return for members of 11.85* per cent for the 2016-17 financial year with strong performance in most asset classes.
The share markets overseas and our property portfolio, including Cbus Property, have had a brilliant year.
International shares were the largest contributor to financial year returns. Global shares were driven by stronger global economic growth and corporate earnings. Cbus’ fund managers also outperformed their benchmarks. Emerging markets had strong returns, which contributed to Cbus’ great result.
The Australian share market was considerably higher at the end of the financial year, although it didn’t perform as well as overseas markets. The infrastructure and alternative growth portfolios also delivered an impressive financial year return.
Investment returns over the past few years have been particularly strong as illustrated in the chart below. The figures over 10 years include the two years of negative returns from the Global Financial Crisis. The Growth (Cbus My Super) option has returned an annual average of 9.24* per cent since inception in 1984.
