Investment changes

Background

At Cbus, we offer a range of investment options to suit our members goals, time frames and their preferred levels of risk. We invest across a wide range of asset classes including shares, property, infrastructure, private equity, fixed interest and cash both in Australia and overseas.

Each investment option across Accumulation, Transition to Retirement and Fully Retired has set investment objectives and we review these objectives every year to ensure they meet members’ needs. When we do this, we look at a range of factors including the age of our members, the economic environment and how we expect different types of assets to perform.

As a result of the 2021 annual review, we have made the following changes effective 31 July 2021:

Asset class changes

  • Renaming the ‘Mid-risk alternatives’ asset class to the ‘Global credit’ asset class

Global credit

This asset class is expected to provide moderate returns over the long-term, with less volatility than shares.

It invests in credit, both investment grade and sub investment grade, within Australia and overseas.  It can invest across a range of instruments such as bonds, loans, structured credit, and other debt instruments.  Lending to corporations may also include infrastructure debt and property construction debt.  Diversified exposure to global credit markets provides sources of return that are complementary to other asset classes.

These changes apply across Accumulation, Transition to Retirement and Fully Retired investment options.

Strategic Asset Allocation changes

Growth option changes:

  • Reduction in the allocation to the ‘Property’ asset class from 13.0% to 12.0%
  • Increase in the allocation to the ‘Cash’ asset class from 3.0% to 4.0%
