Cbus appoints Brett Chatfield as Deputy Chief Investment Officer

Cbus, Australia’s most trusted superannuation fund, has appointed Head of Public Markets, Brett Chatfield, to a newly created Deputy Chief Investment Officer (DCIO) role.

As Head of Public Markets Mr Chatfield has overseen the successful implementation of new internal investment strategies at the $50 billion fund, as well as overseeing the Fund’s external manager portfolio for public markets. His responsibilities have included equities, debt and absolute return strategies.

As DCIO Mr Chatfield will focus on the next stage of the Fund’s investment strategy evolution, including the roll out of additional internal strategies as well as supporting the CIO in continuing the Fund’s focus on maximising risk-adjusted returns while driving down investment costs. 

Cbus CEO David Atkin congratulated Mr Chatfield on his appointment.

“His leadership of public markets has been invaluable to the Fund’s ambitious internalisation agenda and his appointment as Deputy CIO is well deserved.”

Cbus Chief Investment Officer Kristian Fok said Mr Chatfield appointment showed the success of Cbus,

Brett Chatfield bio

Brett has over 19 years’ experience and currently oversees the Public Markets portfolio at Cbus, having joined the Fund in 2013.

Brett is responsible for equities, alternative debt, fixed interest, cash and absolute return strategies, and has been a key driver of the build out of the Fund’s internalisation strategy, which involves bringing a significant portion of funds management in-house.

Prior to joining Cbus, Brett has worked in asset consulting, funds management, and research, including roles with Frontier Investment Consulting, Challenger, UniSuper, and Lonsec.

Prior to moving into the investment side Brett worked in the superannuation group at KPMG. Brett holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) with Distinction and Master of Applied Finance, and is currently completing a Master of Science (Applied Statistics).
