Cbus recognised as a leader in workplace gender equality

Cbus, the Industry Super Fund for the Construction Building and Allied industries has been recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

The WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation recognises organisations for their commitment and best practice in promoting gender equality.

Cbus CEO David Atkin said the recognition was a testament to the hard work the Fund has put into developing a workplace culture that supports its people and ultimately enables the Fund to deliver strong retirement outcomes for members.

“We believe gender equality and diversity improve our productivity and talent acquisition, and are fundamental to the success of our Fund,” Mr Atkin said.

“We are committed to equity, fairness and inclusion and we seek to embody these in our workplace policies, practices, culture and values.

“Across all aspects of the Fund from the way we recruit to the way we invest; gender equality is a priority for Cbus and we actively take action to address inequality.”

Mr Atkin said that practices and policies to promote gender equality were entrenched across all levels of the Fund and include organisation-wide flexible work practices, tailored parental leave policies to support use by women and men, programs to increase women in leadership, initiatives to attract women into male-dominated roles and robust analysis and correction of gender pay gaps. 

“As CEO and as a WGEA Pay Equity Ambassador I’m committed to driving fairness in everything we do,” Mr Atkin said.

“We believe that remaining diligent and implementing creative gender equality practices allows us to attract and retain the best people and reflects our strategic vision to be recognised as an employer of choice."

WGEA Director Libby Lyons congratulated all the 2017-18 citation holders for their commitment and recognition of benefits improved gender equality can bring to their business.

“This year, I am particularly delighted to see some of the innovative and exciting initiatives by our EOCGE citation holders on such issues as flexibility, paid parental leave, supporting women in leadership and addressing gender pay gaps.”

Cbus recently received the Elizabeth Broderick AO Workforce Flexibility Award at the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Awards.
