Cbus to power more of WA with new Bright Energy wind farm

Cbus Super, Australia’s leading building and construction industry super fund, continues to demonstrate its commitment to renewable energy in Western Australia with Bright Energy Investments acquiring the 180MW Warradarge Wind Farm project.

Bright Energy Investments is a partnership between Cbus, global infrastructure fund DIF and the Western Australia owned energy generator and retailer Synergy.

The Western Australian Government has given the go-ahead for the 180MW Warradarge Wind Farm to begin construction in early 2019.

Cbus CEO David Atkin said the fund was excited to be involved in the project.

“Bright Energy Investment has been a landmark deal for superannuation fund investment in renewable energy,” Mr Atkin said.

“Warradarge is the next exciting chapter of this investment, creating up to 200 jobs during and construction and powering the equivalent of 135,000 Western Australian homes in operation.

“This is a solid investment that is set to provide good long-term returns for our members and contribute to a low emissions future.”

Cbus Head of Infrastructure Diana Callebaut said the fund was proud to be involved in the Warradarge project.

“Warradarge Wind Farm is expected to be recognised as one of the best renewable energy projects in the country.”

“The high calibre of the parties involved in BEI and the world-class experience of turbine experts provides comfort that the Warradarge Wind Farm will be delivered smoothly and on-schedule, with first generation expected in 2020.

“As a partner in BEI, Cbus Super sees projects like this as important long-term investments in Western Australia’s energy future.”
